There are many water-based and temporary fixes to slippery floors and tubs. Most are acid etches and those temporarily bore tiny pores into the slippery floor surface giving you some traction temporarily, but as soon as those pores get filled with contaminants, you’re back to buying more of the etching liquid (or the etching liquid sold as “special soap for your newly etched floor”). Water-based anti-slip floor coatings come from well-known suppliers with great photos and ads, but water-based means “temporary”.
SparkleTuff Anti-Slip Floor Coating is a polysiloxane, which means it’s incredibly durable and long-lasting. It has UV, chemical and stain resistance, and comes in standard and Lite Bite versions depending in how much grip you desire. This anti-slip floor treatment is great for slippery epoxy floors, slippery tubs, pool decks, epoxy garage floors, and literally any floor that is slippery when wet. It’s even used on glass flooring! Looks great – no slips!!
Anti-slip floor grip tape is also a fantastic solution to slippery floors and slippery tubs. It comes in abrasive and non-abrasive and different widths, colors and shapes to suite your needs. White round discs to fix a slippery shower or tub, and 2-inch strips at the edge of stairs can save someone from a costly and/or deadly tumble.
The thing to remember when choosing an anti-slip floor coating or an anti-slip floor treatment is to make sure it’s been tested by reliable slip resistance testing techniques. The ANSI tests are not reliable. The NFSI and TCNA are interested in saying a floor isn’t slippery. They don’t publish test methods that utilize good science and research. Choose pendulum DCOF testing and ASTM E303 for reliable slip resistance test data for flooring.
